ATI 9000 and 9250 work only with the open source “ati” driver. The proprietary driver no longer supports your cards.

Hi, i have the same problem of carriddi and ellerbe, with the exception that i am on hardy heron..
if i try the manual installation, after rebooting, i get the “low graphic mode” message and i must reboot in safemode and repari the xorg.conf
it’s about a week that i’m trying to install drivers for my ati radeon 9200, i thought that EnvyNg was the right mode..but i’m loosing hope..:(

On 06/12/2008 I received the same error message that cariddi discovered. With a little ‘tweaking’ I discovered that I could download the latest ATI driver from …

As time allows, I’m gonna try to install this driver without Envy, to see if I can get the ATI Catalyst to work. This way it will be possible for me to set up the dual screen mode for Linux.

Gracias Alberto Milone.Era lo que me dijiste. He editado el whitelist de compiz, para los efectos, y ahora esta todo perfecto.

no tienes que usar el controlador restringido si usas Envy. De lo contrario tendrás problemas.

Deberías usar sólo Envy.

Hola Alberto Milone, enhorabuena por tu trabajo.
Lo que intentaba explicar, esque he probado el nuevo envy con una Ati X 850XT en agp, y lo unico que tube que hacer para activar los efectos fue cambiar composite a “Enable”, y me daba un tasa buena de FPS. Al ver el resultado en esta tarjeta decidi instalarlo en otro pc con una Ati X 800XL (pciEx). Pero no me dio el mismo resultado. Instale los drivers via envy, active los controladores restringido y probe un fglrxinfo: Y vendor redered y version estan en mesa. Me da una tasa muy baja de FPS 450 maximo cuando conseguia 12000. He estado dando vueltas pero no lo saco a flote. No he probado los efectos ya que la tarjeta no rinde como deberia. En la agp me salen dos tarjetas, fglrx y vesa, en la ati solo tengo fglrx. No tengo aceleracion 3D.
