The Nvidia Beta Driver is now available in my Unstable repositories

These packages contain the Nvidia Beta driver 9626, therefore they WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED in any way and you shoud USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK. Therefore you should NOT ask for help on my testing thread in the forum.

I usually do not provide beta drivers but I have made an exception in this case, given the amount of requests I had.

This is my gift to the Community,  to enable Nvidia users to enjoy AIGLX+ Beryl, Compiz, etc.

Use it, love it 😉

Have a look at this page for the repositories and follow the instructions which you will find there:
Unstable repositories

P.S. AIGLX+Beryl rocks 😀

  1. Well, it would be really nice 🙂 However om AMD64 it freezes after starting X, nothing but black screen. Next time, I boot into recover mode, commented out gdm in rc2.d, and after boot, I would try to start only ‘X’. Same thing. Hardware reset … I’ve repeated with using ‘strace’ and the last lines:
    stat(“/dev/nvidiactl”, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0666, st_rdev=makedev(195, 255), …}) = 0
    open(“/dev/nvidiactl”, O_RDWR) = 8
    ioctl(8, 0xc0e046c8, 0x2b74ddb11c40) = 0
    ioctl(8, 0xc00c4622

    That’s all. So X server hangs on an ioctl() …

    Last lines from /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

    (**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (–) framebuffer bpp 32
    (==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 888
    (==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor
    (==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
    (**) NVIDIA(0): Option “NoLogo” “true”
    (**) NVIDIA(0): Option “RenderAccel” “1”
    (**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration
    (II) NVIDIA(0): Support for GLX with the Damage and Composite X extensions is
    (II) NVIDIA(0): enabled.

    Ok, I _KNOW_ about the lack of support, but if you have any idea … 🙂

  2. Alberto, tis appreciated. I just wanted to ‘fyi’ you that the 9626 driver is required for the 7950 GT’s. I posted that in the forums, and it would seem that on nvidia’s site thee 9626 driver isn’t listed as a beta at all, rather the ‘quaddro’ driver. -curious that.

    Anyway thanks for the work you do with the video side……….MOST APPRECIATED!!!!

    🙂

    Casey
