here is the changelog:
* Fixed: Envy aborted the operation with kernels named in a certain way (2.6.22-gms)
* Fixed: the linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22.1 folder was renamed and therefore
Envy's uninstallation was not clean. The folder get its original name back
when the installation process is complete
This release fixes a problem with certain recompiled kernels and makes sure that Envy can be uninstalled properly.
On Envy’s future:
I’m thinking of adding some new (long requested) features to Envy 0.9.8 such as the chance to choose between different releases of the same kind of driver, e.g. driver 100.14.09 and 100.14.11 (in the case of the “latest” type of driver).
Another thing I would like to add (in 0.9.9 maybe?) is the chance to export the packages (including the kernel module) that Envy builds so as to install them on computers which have no access to the Internet (however the machine which builds the packages will still need an Internet connection).
I haven’t designed the whole thing yet but I think I will do it at nights (therefore I have no release date) since I am studying for an exam (Postcolonial English Literature). There are only 2 exams left now and I can’t wait to graduate (again) and look for a job.
You can get Envy here as usual.
choose between different releases of the same kind of driver…
For me it’s not a very good idea to take an older version of the ATI driver because the older version have a lot of problem. The last AMD Catalyst driver is the first driver who work correctly on my computer and when I read on ubuntu-fr I see that a lot of people prefer the last releases of the driver.
I think it would be a good idea, because it isn’t working for me (the last ati driver 8.40). Can I have back the deb envy_0.9.7-0ubuntu6 ? To reinstall 8.39 ?

Is there ever going to be a repository for Envy? Or at least a ‘check for updates’ option inside the program? Would be very useful I think.
@Nicholas
I’m thinking about it… we’ll see
Excellent job! You should also give an option for enabling 32bit compatible libraries, as without them, Cedega’s OpenGL test fails despite direct rendering being enabled.
@deepak
what package do you refer to as the 32bit compatible libraries for Cedega?
Thank you Alberto for the link 😉
Merci Beaucoup, j’adore ton boulot…

Grazie 😉
@jonny84
la scheda potrebbe anche essere PCI Express, non cambia niente.
I can’t use Envy to install ATI drivers in Gutsy. Is that a known problem? Will there be a Gutsy version out any time soon? I don’t understand why the restricted drivers manager installs such an old version of the ATI driver..
@borge
have a look at this post:

Oh, sorry, I didn’t see that one. Sound terribly dangerous, though, so I think I’ll just hold on until I can use Envy the safe way again.. 🙂 Hopefully Ubuntu will install the newest drivers by itself by then. I don’t know how likely that is, though.
Thanks a lot for the fast reply!

I am trying to use Envy to install nvidia drivers, but I’m having some difficulty. The problem is that I’m on a very bad connection and so the downloads stall. An easy fix would be to have the scripts run wget with the ‘-c’ option and/or more retries.
Envy is the greatest tool ever! I was freaking out because I bought a new dell with Vista on it and downloaded ubuntu but the driver kept breaking anytime I would make vital changes to my system (adding ubuntu studio packages and kubuntu) I did 3 reinstalls before I had to find a better way. Now if Envy could just cure me of these stupid chickenpox I have had for 4 days I would be all set.
Most excellent tool – thank you very much. I have a question, where does envy get the actual driver, from nvidia’s site? Envy installed 100.14.11 for me, but I see that nvidia today released 100.14.19. I re-ran envy, and still have .11. I’m asking because a bug specifically fixed w/ the new driver has been effecting a program I work with. Thanks again though – this is excellent. I can’t imagine why the distros do not try to include this functionality already.
@Paul
I will update Envy ASAP
