AMD released new driver (8.01) which still lacks the symlink to libfglrx_gamma.so.1.0. Envy gets around the problem now. Let me know if you have further problems.
Here’s the changelog:
* Fixed: Upstream Bug - missing symlink to libfglrx_gamma.so.1.0 (libfglrx_gamma.so.1)
* Fixed: "Envy" was not the title of the legacy dialogues on Debian
* Added: AMD Catalyst driver 8.01
* Removed: AMD Catalyst driver 7.12
Make sure you check both the solved and the known issues before you install the new driver.
Finally the Ati issue with high resolutions is fixed 🙂
The blocky video playback is still annoying. But thanks Envy for making driver installation easy!
nvidia 169.09 is out i will wait for new envy….:)
nice if u put option add new driver remove old 1
I’m also waiting for the new nvidia driver 169.09.
Thank you for this great application.
After the installation, I reboot and I’m still in failsafex, why? Radeon 9600.

Among the solved bugs I noticed that “Corruption will no longer be noticed in the lower right corner of the display or on the mouse pointer after the system is running for a long period of time”
However I still get the same corruption after using the system for more than a hour and updating drivers.
Mine is a 1680×1050 using a ATI X1300 card inside Gutsy Gibbon

Hi Alberto, thanks for this new release! Everything worked fine for me; the onley “problem” I detected is that in the spanish version, when it asks me if I want envy to configure my xorg.conf and then to reboot my pc, it is in english and not in spanish as it should… maybe you could fix this in the next release. 😉
I too am waiting with baited breath for the 169.09 NVIDIA driver version of Envy.
Albertooooooooooooooooo!!!

thanx 😉
Thanks for ur work.I really love it : )
With the proprietary ati driver the video plaback was pixelated.
I coundnt feel the smoothness of video playback in linux when compared to xp.
Now I have installed envy >> the video playback is so clear.Really i am thankful to u : )
Hip-hip hurray Envy RoCKZzzzz : )
Alberto:
Thank you for this program, it’s quite helpful.
Billbose:
I was able to prevent the corruption by adding this line to Section “Device” in xorg.conf:
Option “XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps” “true”
You might try adding that line to see if it fixes the issue for your setup.
Thanks for the new drivers.
Sorry for the earlier. I put the older driver and hence the corruption. The new drivers did fix the issue.
Also thank you xosis for the idea. I wish I consulted you earlier 🙂
New driver is quite brilliant with ASUS 8500GTS because of NVIDIA X Server Color Correction for Desktop and X Server XVideo Settings for Overlay BUT with Club/ATI 2600PRO produces fit-inducing flashing display in video playback, and has a poor Catalyst Control Panel.
(But Catalyst is poor for WinXP and Vista too.)
Hi alberto, i think I have a md5 check problem with the new 8-01 ATI driver and ENVY 9.10
I downloaded the driver and put at /usr/share/envy.
nandim@burn:/usr/share/envy$ md5sum ati-driver-installer-8-01-x86.x86_64.run
cf8f493901f5abb28347e7aa7c9d6cca ati-driver-installer-8-01-x86.x86_64.run
is this the right md5?!
thanks… and great work on this project and good luck with the others.
hello again…
i take a look at some forums, and a think the md5 that ENVY 0.9.10-ubuntu2 is checking for the 8.443 ATI driver (5d40b0c7a6f9e8356fdcd38052ae5e7b) and not the 8-01 driver (cf8f493901f5abb28347e7aa7c9d6cca).
I also am having trouble due to the fact that envy is looking for the driver i need to have a different md5sum than it does. How do I change the sum it’s looking for to match the sum the file actually fits?
Problem:-
Yesterday i installed ubuntu and then
–I installed the restricted driver first and then installed
driver through envy.
Every thing went fine. But i coudnt enable the desktop effects in
ubuntu.
Even in screen resolution,i got maximum of 1280*1024 , which is
the correct one for my monitor.
But
today i installed ubuntu and then
–I installed driver through envy directly(didnt install
restricted driver at all).
Surprisingly the desktop effects got enabled , which weren’t wid
the previous driver installed by envy.
The resolution was detected wrong.I changed the resolution to
1280*1024.But still i get wrong resolution at login screen(after
i login every thing is fine)
Now surprisingly desktop efects got enabled which werent wid the
previous driver installed by envy. why is this problem of
resolution coming??What are the reasons behind these problems
wid envy?? how can envy install two different drivers at
different times???
note :- I am a fan of envy. The official driver really suckzz.
So today i got this problem wid envy.plzz tell me what to
do.
I have ati onboard graphic card(ati radeon 200 series).
