You can get it from my repositories for Ubuntu Edgy:
http://albertomilone.com/driver_edgy.html
Or you can use Envy 0.7.1
The updates for my repositories for Ubuntu Dapper will be available soon.
WARNING: there is a bug which affects driver 9629 and the graphic cards with NV2x GPUs (e.g. Geforce 3 and 4) .
How about a package for feisty and the 2.6.19 kernel?
They work perfect! (in an AMD64)
I moved from XGL+X.org to X.org only, after installing this driver (supporting Beryl of course). 😀
Now, a question: will you try to update the packages if the official Ubuntu kernel gets updated?
Thanks!
Marcelo
Mikael
I will do that as soon as I install Feisty.
But keep in mind that I should install Feisty 32bit and 64bit and the amount of work would increase (since I have to compile packages for Dapper 32 and 64bit and Edgy 32 and 64bit).
We’ll see…
In the meantime I might add the support for Feisty to Envy (so that you will get the latest driver without increasing my amount of work).
Synaptic upgrade wants to install *-386 restricted modules, whereas I use *-generic.
Why so?
I think it is ok now.
Sorry for the noise…
Marcelo Fernández :
The packages will be maintained. They will be updated when the kernel is updated.
Of course, if the kernel is updated when I’m not at home, you’ll need to wait a few hours
yanapu:
that does not depend on my packages. It’s a bug (I guess) which affects Edgy in general.
The solution is that of letting Ubuntu install the 386 kernel together with the nvidia driver, then (DO NOT RESTART your computer) just type:
sudo aptitude purge linux-image-2.6.17-10-386
and let Ubuntu remove also the restricted modules for 386.
Then reboot.
Ok Alberto, no problem. It’s for my home PC, and I’m not always at home too. 😀
Thanks for your great work!

Unfortunately, xf86VidMode in 9629 is broken for many of us – http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=79920
Drivers working great on my GeForce 7950 GT.
I have noticed one small thing though, which was also present in the 9626 drivers, where the refresh rate does not properly display if I open “System->Preferences->Screen Resolution”. My screen is running at 85Hz but “System->Preferences->Screen Resolution” shows it as 50Hz. It really is running at 85Hz though as my monitor tells me this, so it’s only a minor thing by the looks of it.
Other than that, drivers working great, running anything from Beryl to Doom 3
I tried the drivers and they work great. I managed to set a dual desktop with Xinerama and with 3D acceleration on.
The option TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder is a big plus since I can now specify which monitor is the main one. The old drivers assumed that the VGA connector of my card where connected to my main monitor, which wan’t the case.
I did encounter one bug, when the drivers are used with xinerama and the composite extension some applications fail to start. In my case the application that fails to start are nedit and gnome-terminal. I found a workaround which constist to set the environment variable XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS to a true value before launching the terminal or nedit.
In GNOME set your prefered terminal application to:
sh -c “XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 exec gnome-terminal”
Mr. Milone,
Thank you very much for the “Envy” script!
Best wishes,
Thomas
How do I enable TV output?
I found your tutorial, but it seems to be outdated.
Nevermind, I found that I need to open nvidia-settings after plugging in the TV and enable the TV output.
Josh
remember to launch nvidia settings with sudo otherwise you won’t be able to modify your xorg.conf:
sudo nvidia-settings
Hi,
I have notebook asus A6TC with nVidia GeForce Go 7300 and I hve problems with installinng nvidia drivers on my ubuntu 6.10. I am using generic kernel 2.6.17. When trying to instal the driver manualy, i follow the instruction but could not start gdm correctly. After looking xorg log file in /var/log, there was problem with loading this driver. When I use envy script, it failed on problem with libc header: Error message in log file:
ERROR: You do not appear to have libc header files installed on your system.
Please install your distribution’s libc development package.
I tried to install the new header, but the newest have been allready installed. Is there any problem with support of this card ? Please help me, I am almost desperade.
I used envy to install. After installation I read about the bug for Geforce4 cards.
Is there a way using envy to downgrade to 9626?
Pigna
just install and run envy 0.6.1
Jakub
make sure that all the repositories are enabled.
Any plans to add the new 9631 version to repository?

I’ll make an official announcement on my blog as soon as the latest driver is available in my stable repos
