Envy 0.9.2-0ubuntu4 UNSTABLE – yet another update for ATI legacy users
There was a (stupid) typo which prevented Envy from packaging the ATI legacy driver properly.
Let me know how it goes

Thanks for update Alberto.
I installed the 0.9.2-0ubuntu4 version. I have a problem with the fglrx-kernel-src package. There is no package named fglrx-kernel-src in the repository. But fglrx-kernel-source is there and it’s version is 8.34.8.
I installed envy 0.9.2 in my new ubuntu 7.04 system.
However i have the following error when running:
:~$ fgl_glxgears
Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
Xlib: extension “XFree86-DRI” missing on display “:0.0”.
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)

I need to know:
1) the model of your card
2) did you use the automatic or the manual installation?
3) the content of your /var/log/envy-installer.log
I have a ATI Mobility RADEON X600 PCI Express 64Mb
I used the automatic installation
content of the log:

I manage to install succesfully the ATI driver with envy. I don’t understand what the problem was. What i did (stupid things):
Installed ATI drivers manually with envy, didn’t work
Unistalled ATI driver with Envy,
Installed FGLRX from packadge manager, didn’t work
Tried again ENVY automatic ATI driver installations, IT WORKS NOW 🙂
grazie
Hello, I cannot install envy up once no more, continuously come an error message: Dependency is emergency satisfiable: modules assistant one knows not once, what is missing exactly. I have Feisty
super thank you!!! Whereupon I would have had to come * g * you still another question, which I must register then in Xorg? And me still which was noticeable, if I do not click Desktopeffekte am that any longer possible, there come the error message that this module is not to no more at the disposal. What happened there? Gerhard
Hi
Works fine on “GeForce FX 5600 Ultra” as said before.
But now I have a new LCD 42′ connected via DVI to HDMI plug under my temporary windows xp I can use 1920x1080p and 1080i. Now I wonder how to do this under Ubuntu. I wonder if its something with the nvidia driver. I´ve tried various xorg.conf tips only messing upp everything. I belive there is a lot of us out there who like this solved so we can use Ubuntu as media center and as the only OS. Like a box to fill in my LCD supports 1080p 1:1 pixelmapped. 1920x1080p or i done. 🙂
I have problems, i have bfg 8800gts and feisty, i use envy to install the nvidia driver it works, but envy install nvidia-glx and not install nvidia-glx-new the correct for 8800gts. with that i have very slow beryl, for instance my glxgear are:
33542 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6708.238 FPS
7057 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1411.358 FPS
35039 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7007.658 FPS
28707 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5741.382 FPS
etc..
Well now i have installed the drivers manually without envy and with nvidia-glx-new
The result was:
server glx version string: 1.4
client glx version string: 1.4
GLX version: 1.3
OpenGL version string: 2.1.0 NVIDIA 97.55
Anyway my glxgears are a little bit more faster
44415 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8882.849 FPS
44209 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8841.641 FPS
43489 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8697.671 FPS
45380 frames in 5.0 seconds = 9075.998 FPS
But i think they are low anyway… what do you think?
I have a e6600 a bfg8800gts 2gbram and samsung 205BW and my beryl is very slow…
PS: and i have done the very trick for speedup
Thanks for update Alberto.
I installed the 0.9.2-0ubuntu4 version. I have a problem with the fglrx-kernel-src package. There is no package named fglrx-kernel-src in the repository. But fglrx-kernel-source is there and it’s version is 8.34.8.
OK. I installed fglrx-kernel-src 8.24.8 manually from packages.debian.org.
http://packages.debian.org/stable/x11/fglrx-kernel-src
But I have some error yet.
log is here:
http://damsizgirilmez.googlepages.com/envy-installer.log3.txt
and I tried with the fglrx-kernel-source 8.34.8 (from ubuntu repo)
and same error.
log is here:
http://damsizgirilmez.googlepages.com/envy-installer.log4.txt
Same problem here, where should he find the kernel source?
I installed envy 0.9.2 in my new ubuntu 7.04 system.
However i have the following error when running:
:~$ fgl_glxgears

If you need any more information please tell me in order to help you in finding the problem with envy.

ENVY: Operation Completed

I manage to install succesfully the ATI driver with envy. I don’t understand what the problem was. What i did (stupid things):
Installed ATI drivers manually with envy, didn’t work
Unistalled ATI driver with Envy,
Installed FGLRX from packadge manager, didn’t work
Tried again ENVY automatic ATI driver installations, IT WORKS NOW 🙂
thanks

grazie
Hello, I cannot install envy up once no more, continuously come an error message: Dependency is emergency satisfiable: modules assistant one knows not once, what is missing exactly. I have Feisty
Gerhard:
make sure you have Ubuntu’s universe and multiverse repositories enabled.
Hello albertomilone 🙂
super thank you!!!
sammao:
you can use nvidia-settings for that (I guess)
Hy there,
I have problems, i have bfg 8800gts and feisty, i use envy to install the nvidia driver it works, but envy install nvidia-glx and not install nvidia-glx-new the correct for 8800gts. with that i have very slow beryl, for instance my glxgear are:
33542 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6708.238 FPS
7057 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1411.358 FPS
35039 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7007.658 FPS
28707 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5741.382 FPS
etc..
How can i use envy and have nvidia-glx-new ???
Thanks
Panda_N_Shark:
Envy builds the nvidia-glx with either driver 9755 (known as nvidia-glx-new in Ubuntu) or driver 9631.
Envy does not adopt Ubuntu’s naming scheme.
post the result of this command:
glxinfo | grep version
Can you help?
Thanks
glxgears is not a real benchmark.
Try this one:
