{"id":131,"date":"2007-10-17T18:18:55","date_gmt":"2007-10-17T17:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/albertomilone.com\/wordpress\/?p=131"},"modified":"2007-10-17T18:18:55","modified_gmt":"2007-10-17T17:18:55","slug":"envy-098-adds-the-support-for-ubuntu-gutsy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/albertomilone.com\/blog\/envy-098-adds-the-support-for-ubuntu-gutsy\/","title":{"rendered":"Envy 0.9.8 adds the support for Ubuntu Gutsy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are a few announcements I would like to make:<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n1)<\/strong> Envy is now available in 2 different packages: <strong>&#8220;Envy New&#8221;<\/strong> and <strong>&#8220;Envy Legacy&#8221;<\/strong>.<br \/>\n&#8220;Envy New&#8221; supports only Ubuntu Gutsy and Ubuntu Feisty. It is compliant with Debian&#8217;s New Python Policy.<br \/>\n&#8220;Envy Legacy&#8221; supports all the other systems which Envy used to support (have a look at my website)<br \/>\n<strong>Please, make sure you select the right package for your OS.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Envy now features a restore function which will completely remove what Envy did to your operative system and set the driver to either &#8220;nv&#8221; or &#8220;vesa&#8221;. You can call it by typing:<br \/>\n<code>sudo envy --uninstall-all<\/code><\/p>\n<p>This feature was suggested by <strong>Michael Vogt<\/strong> so that (<strong>in the future<\/strong>) Update Manager will be able to call this function and clean the system before you do a dist-upgrade (e.g. if you upgrade Gutsy to Hardy). <strong>This will finally solve the problems with Envy and dist-upgrades<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Envy can now be removed with a simple &#8220;sudo apt-get remove envy&#8221; without any need to type &#8220;sudo rm -R \/usr\/share\/envy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> <strong>Localisation is not ready<\/strong> since I wanted to release Envy today and I had to code at nights (I have an exam on October 22). I&#8217;ve decided to postpone this feature (I&#8217;ll do it after the exam, I promise).<\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong> This release includes a few bugfixes as usual.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6)<\/strong> After the exam I will ask your contribution in 2 ways:<br \/>\n\ta) I will open a <strong>logo\/theme contest<\/strong> so as to <strong>replace Envy&#8217;s current theme<\/strong> (which is possibly Envy&#8217;s weakest point)<br \/>\n\tb) I will ask your help to have Envy <strong>localised<\/strong> in your language<\/p>\n<p>You can get Envy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.albertomilone.com\/nvidia_scripts1.html\">here<\/a> as usual<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE: if you installed a previous version of Envy you will have to type &#8220;sudo rm -R \/usr\/share\/envy&#8221; once more (this is the last time, I promise \ud83d\ude09 ) before you install version 0.9.8.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are a few announcements I would like to make: 1) Envy is now available in 2 different packages: &#8220;Envy New&#8221; and &#8220;Envy Legacy&#8221;. &#8220;Envy New&#8221; supports only Ubuntu Gutsy and Ubuntu Feisty.
