Envy 0.9.5-0ubuntu5 is now available.
Here is the changelog:
* Added: ATI driver 8.38.6
* Removed: ATI driver 8.37.6
Please, remember to remove your previous release of Envy before you install this new release:
sudo apt-get --purge remove envy
sudo rm -R /usr/share/envy
You can get Envy here as usual.
If this step is indeed required, then perhaps some more work needs to be put into the postinst script. The postinst script is passed an argument that should let it know when it’s in an upgrade situation, and it ought to be able to move any necessary files out of the way.
User notification or interaction during this step may be specified by the distribution packaging policy, if that is a concern.
@Nick
the problem is that Envy uses some scripts to build the deb packages with the driver. Some temporary files are created and it’s because of these files that you need to type sudo rm -R /usr/share/envy .
I’ll fix this issue as soon as I have the time.
Ciao Alberto,
Forse te lo avranno chiesto in milioni, ma Envy funziona su Kubuntu Feisty Fawn ?
@Antonio
Certo
I’ve just install a clean feisty setup..
Im having a problem with my 8600GT.. the 2d performance is shockingly poor. Drawing to the screen is very slow.. much worse than the nv driver. but 3d acceleration is fine.
Any suggestions?
@Robert
I think you should ask here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=14
I have new installed my ATI Card. Envy Says I have make a clean install but when i call fglrxinfo…
neil@neil-desktop:~$ fglrxinfo
Xlib: extension “XFree86-DRI” missing on display “:0.0”.
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: http://www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.2)
So I tried so many ways the install my ati card but I cand handle it.
Card Name: ATI X1950 PRO
I’m using Ubuntu/feisty.
I can’t understood I’m doing everything true…
Hi alberto
It seems i have the same problem as the guys had in the blog comments of envy0.9.4 unstable fix as the last lines are the same.
I’m using the newest version of envy and the workaround you proposed for the others doesnt work. The commands lsmod | grep nvidia doesnt show anything and the modprob -a doesnt change anything regarding lsmod…
my x.0.log output was this:

Your graphic card has been detected as a ATI Radeon 9250/9200 Series

ENVY ERROR: ATI’s legacy driver does not support your operative system
Is that right? fglrx doesn’t work in Feisty?
ciao alberto
anque chΓ© (m)io
have you seen anything unusual in my log?
i can’t really judge..
greets miguel
ati released a hotfix 8.38.7 driver the day after releasing 8.38.6
the 8.38.6 included a fatal error by removing xorg.conf
is there any problem with the new envy release installing 8.38.6? or is it working properly?
@po
Envy doesn’t use aticonfig to set up your xorg.conf. Maybe running aticonfig or amdccle with sudo will cause that problem.
Anyway I’ll update Envy ASAP.
@DanJohnson
Yes, it’s right. The legacy driver doesn’t work in Feisty.
@donmiguel
try booting in Recovery Mode then type:
depmod -ae
reboot
and boot as usual
