Bad news:
* The new releases of Envy do not support Ubuntu Breezy any more (since I would not be able to test it)
Good news:
* The new releases of Envy do NOT remove the restricted-modules any more. This means that everyone can use it, even users who connect to the Internet through wireless cards.
* Envy does NOT remove files any more but simply uninstall nvidia-glx (via aptitude) and blacklist Ubuntu’s driver in /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common
Both Dapper and Edgy are supported by Envy (but Composite is disabled by default)
There are 2 releases of Envy:
1) Envy (stable) 0.5.1 installs either driver 7184 or 8776
2) Envy (unstable) 0.6.1 installs the beta driver 9626 but which IS NOT SUPPORTED IN ANY WAY and might be DANGEROUS to use (since it installs a BETA driver. You SHOULD NOT ask for help about this unstable release on my thread in the forum.
You can get Envy on my website, as usual.
Interesting timing… your post showed up on planet.ubuntu.com right after Dennis K. and Stephan H. finished telling people not to use custom scripts to install packages… =x
But still, thanks for your hard work!
Envy worked like a charm! I upgraded to edgy today and for the first time since using ubuntu, getting the nvidia drivers to work was actually easy. Thanks!
Thanks for this, works perfectly.
I was a little bit shocked how easy it was… ๐
c’รจ una soluzione allo schermo vuoto per le nvidia geforce 440 go?
io ho questa scheda, e usando i driver beta funziona tutto ma lo schermo sembra restare spento (posso usare edgy alla cieca solamente…)
