I warmly recommend you to update to this release of Envy since it solves a few problems:
* Fixed: now Envy should detect the card properly even if 2 or more cards are detected
* Fixed: solves the “md5 error” bug which affected legacy cards
* Fixed: Ati installer 8.28.8 needs a symbolic link to bash on Edgy (which is reverted back
to dash after the packages are built)
Molto buono il tuo pacchetto
Sorry Alberto, still no go with Legacy, removed old Envy and installed the latest, get the same md5 checksum error when it goes to download the driver from the nvidia website. Back to .73 which works fine, please don’t get too bothered with this, the .73 version installs the nvidia legacy just fine on PCs with older cards. 🙂
Arup Roy Chowdhury:
I would like Envy to work even better than 0.7.3. Therefore I would really appreciate your help (feedback).
1) Do you use Ubuntu 64bit or 32bit?
2) try this and see if it solves the problem:
sudo rm -R /usr/share/envy
sudo aptitude purge envy
then install the latest envy again and see if it works.
Alberto,
Fully understand your point, I am like that as well, the errors I get are as follow, temporary name resolution error, also md5 new is blank and md5 old there is an output of numbers, installation aborts. I did remove Envy with your method.
Forgot to add, am using Ubuntu 32bit on a dual P-III 850 machine.
Arup Roy Chowdhury:
I’ve plugged in my old Riva TNT1 and found the bug (a stupid one indeed).
I’ll package a new release and wait for your feedback
Thank you Alberto, will wait for your new package.
I am having the same issue. I am using 32bit Ubuntu with a Compaq EVO with a P1.7GHZ. It has the NV6 video. It appears to fail downloading a file from Nvidia site.
Ok guys, please try envy_0.8.1-0ubuntu5_all.deb
and let me know how it goes (it seems to work fine here)
:):):) Excellent, works fine, thank you Alberto, keep up your good work, Ubuntu should make it standard way of installing nvidia drivers, the repository way is severely flawed, the legacy driver only installs with the i386 kernel which has no SMP support so not feasible in dual CPU or dual core CPUs. This tool makes Ubuntu superior to other distros, I tried my best with Yast to install nvidia on SuSE 10.2 and it was sadly no go. Also I wanted to add that in Kubuntu, Envy fails to install nvidia legacy on my system.
Many thanks again.
It ran without a hitch and downloaded the driver etc. But, when X restarts there is no Nvidia logo.
The driver in xorg.conf is nvidia.
any suggestions?
Arup Roy Chowdhury:
what happens exactly on your Kubuntu?
Ed:
make sure that there isn’t a nologo option in your xorg.conf
and make sure that the output of this command is “yes”:
glxinfo | grep direct
Hello, I have a usb speedtouch modem for my internet and I use speedtouch-ng to conect my computer to internet. When I go out of my cession it stop my internet connection. How can I installe my ati driver with envy.
I will try out Kubuntu again, last time, it installed the drivers but the system couldn’t start X, even if I edited the xorg.conf file.
pierluc:
sorry but I haven’t got a speedtouch modem. I hope someone else can answer your question.
Arup Roy Chowdhury:
yours might be a different problem. Maybe you just need to follow point 4 of the Problems Section of my guide:
http://www.albertomilone.com/latest_nvidia_udsf_edgy.html
direct rendering is yes.
The nologo is not in my xorg.conf .
I am fairly sure the driver is loaded. SOme output from the glxinfo command:
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: RIVA TNT2/AGP/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 1.5.3 NVIDIA 71.84
I used your version 4 script last night on an AMD64 3000 with a GeForce6800GT without any issues.
Thanks
I also purge the previous version with the commands listed above before I installed version 5.
Ed:
the driver works fine. I wouldn’t know what else to suggest
OK thanks. I will do some more research.
Thanks again for the script. It is a great time saver for Ubuntu users.
